"There will be little rubs and disappointments everywhere, and we are all apt to expect too much; but then, if one scheme of happiness fails, human nature turns to another; if the first calculation is wrong, we make a second better: we find comfort somewhere . . . "
- Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
PS: I have to go to a work party right now, but all of my "work friends" are skipping it (and I only have about two "work friends," for various political reasons (but remember I DO like my workplace ~ politics abound regardless)).
The only people I know who will be there are the ones who are part of "The Group" who don't want anything to do with me because they think I'm a snob (???) and then there are the people who are way senior to me - I can talk it up with them for a while, but then they remember how junior I am and turn tail.
This sucks. Maybe I should skip it but they have free wine... jeez, I can tolerate a lot for free wine.
