Eye Candy Friday ~ An Old Favorite

I sat here this morning, staring through water-streaked glass into the grimy mop of bedraggled buildings on the other side of my window, straining to find something colorful and eye-candyish to share with you.  But it's tough when this is all you see:

We can do better than that.  We have internets and hard drives and digital photos and we know how to use them.

Let's go back in time, back before the blog, before grad school, before I appreciated cashmere and alpaca.  We're going back to those days when I knit only with acrylic.

Come with me to Bermuda 2004 for a much needed gasp of color and sunshine.

If you haven't been to Bermuda, well, to begin with, you should go.  I didn't photoshop those colors.  The beaches really are that pink and the water is as warm and inviting as the baths your mama used to draw for you and bluer than new-born baby eyes.

Ben and I hopped a Norwegian cruise ship out of New York harbor for that week in September, fleeing the madness that ensued when the Republican National Convention descended on our city, all chaos in tow.  Ben had short hair back then, and I didn't have these pounds I picked up from grad school.

Our Bermuda paradise is what I see when I stare at the crust of gray snow heaped on curbs in the midst of winter's thrall.  When the sky is slate and slams the streets with rain, when the hours tick-tock toward evening and I am still planted behind my desk or tucked into an squeaky classroom chair with eyes glazed from probability functions, my mind escapes to these sweet sands, the water and sky so pure, such a saturated blue, and I yearn for sultry days with nothing much to do and nothing demanded of me but liberal sunscreen application and a properly fitted bathing suit.

This isn't new eye-candy I bring you.  It's more like a good old favorite snack.

Today, I want to escape the rain to somewhere warm where I can relax and be silly.

Tonight, I'm going to see South Pacific at Lincoln Center.  The show has received stellar reviews (and I won a free DVD soundtrack of this remount) so that should lift my rainy-day melancholy.

And tomorrow my mom flies into town.  Perhaps the rain will abate enough for us to have some fine city adventures.  I'll let you know all about it, of course.

Comments

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one hating this weather! Thanks for posting such sunny, happy pictures :)

Lovley pix!
I've only ever been to anywhere vaguely tropical once in my life (Barbados in '81) I really must fish out the photos and scan them sometime.
